Toni M. Andrews - THE ROAD TO SECOND CHANCE

April 11, 2024 06:00 PM

Join us at Elaine's Restaurant in Old Town, Alexandria on Thursday evening April 11 for an event featuring local author, Toni M. Andrews, who will discuss her debut novel, The Road To Second Chance. The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a "meet & greet" followed by a book talk, Q&A and signing.

This event is free. Seating is limited. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Some complimentary appetizers will be provided. A limited number of the novel will be available for purchase.

The novel is set in the turbulent era between President John F. Kennedy's assassination and the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and is recounted through the eyes of main character, Laney Mae Martin.

This discussion will explore how major historical events impact individuals and families and our national "family." How do we heal – whether individually or as a nation – from events of great trauma? Can we trace our current polaralization and dysfunction as a nation to the traumatic events of the era between JFK to 9/11? Can we overcome the divisions that tear us apart?

Healing requires forgiveness, the “second chance” in the title. In the end, this story is about finding a way to carry on by seeking the light on the darkest of days, wherever we can find that light, and often, it is within ourselves.

6:00 pm: Meet-and-Greet
